Don't you care. This order was only $3.99.What if it was more. Rating.AWFUL I placed order on 6/9/09.I'm still waiting after multiple inquiries, it's now 7/21/09. How can I ever trust you again.
I'm going to buy it as gifts for my friends. Mine is a 6 qt and they are coming out fine without any additions. Well, I read all the reviews and figured this was worth a shot. All of you are RIGHT. Rick Rodgers is right- he has all the ingredients perfected. His directions are very straightforward and clear. I've often thought, hmm I really should add more of this instead of water (won't it lose flavor)., or that really will need more salt.
I like to use fresh ingredients in ALL my cooking. Yummy. All I can say is- Don't second guess the recipe. I'm a newlywed and my husband has been floored by what has been coming out of the 'ol crock pot. I don't think that any of the ingredients are hard to find and many of the spices and things I keep on hand. Which I'm having for lunch today. And yes, on the second or third day it even tastes better (if that is possible).
Just plan out about 30-40mins. you have the ability to double the recipe as well. This will need more spices. And Yes, it isn't one where you just drop in the stuff and leave- it takes time. You won't be disappointed. I was definitely skeptical when purchasing this book, as I've had and read many BAD slow-cooker books with mostly pre-made ingredients. I plan on chopping up the ingredients the night before, leaving them in the fridge, and then sticking them all in the pot in the morning before work. They are Delish.
I cannot wait to try another out of this book. But this book uses all fresh ingredients so you will need to plan and shop for it. Slow cooking is very different than that of in a pot on the stove. For taste and health.
Most of the recipes are planned for a 3 1/2 qt. Just plan your time.Oh yea. Anything that takes time is worthwhile. But the results are more than worth it. I bought a new copy for like 41cents under the used section- try this.
After 8 hours of cooking they will be the perfect size and the meat would end up tough if you had cut it smaller.
But with a 6 qt.
You just need to trust the expert and follow the instructions.
Crock Pot.
These recipes are simply amazing.
to prepare and you will be fine.
Trust me, learn from my mistake, if it says to cut the meat into 2-inch chunks, even though you think that is too large, DO IT.
I highly recommend the Beef Stroganoff and the Very nice red beans and rice.
But in the end, it comes out BEAUTIFULLY.
I mean, REALLY. I have never seen a collection of recipes before that are so unappealing. It is not even worth that amount. Well, the book is old and there is a reason why the price is only 47 cents these days. What the author calls sumptuous meals I would call really groce. What about Beef Bourguignon where we use NO french herbs whatsoever, just half a cup of red wine per 2 pounds of beef and Mr Rodgers wants us to cook the mushrooms and the broiling onions for 7 to 8 hours.
I had purchased this cookbook quite a long time ago. The sauce for this recipe (using a base of canned tomatoes) tasted wonderful. My typical practice in reading a cookbook is to go through page by page, recipe by recipe, making a list of all the ones I'd like to try. Made the Parmesan Meatballs on Sunday.
Recipes like these can provide a higher quality meal, giving us a feeling of indulgence, saving money and giving Mom a break. The meatballs were tender and delicious. I'll admit that there is some planning required for these meals but they seem well worth the effort. Pair a book like this with a book like "Artisan Bread in Five Minutes a Day," another recent favorite of mine, and eat like royalty. In these hard economic times my family and I are cutting way back on dinners out and take out. I rediscovered it in a neglected section of my library this past weekend.
I'll be making more recipes soon. My thanks to the author. My list for this cookbook was loooong. I don't usually make my own tomato sauces, I've come to rely on jarred for their ease and predictability.
I have found some desserts that look doable and interesting to try/taste. I am looking for recipes that I can use for my slow cookers. Like sloppy Joe's, Brisket/Pot Roast, Stew.
